What Does Bader Insurance Cover?
Bader Storage Insurance provides coverage for direct physical loss or damage to eligible property stored in your enclosed storage unit, as well as certain locked vehicles stored outdoors behind a locked fence at the leased premises. Coverage applies only to specific covered causes of loss and is subject to the policy’s terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions. Covered causes of loss include:
- Fire and lightning
- Windstorm, hail, tornado, and hurricane
- Smoke
- Vandalism and malicious mischief
- Earthquake
- Weight of ice, snow, or sleet
- Building collapse
- Certain types of water damage
- Rodent damage
- Burglary involving forcible entry
Do I Need Bader Insurance?
You may already have coverage for stored property through a renter’s, homeowner’s, auto, watercraft, business, or other insurance policy. Bader recommends checking with your insurance provider to understand whether your existing policy covers property while it is in storage, as well as your exclusions, deductibles, and coverage limits.
Purchasing Bader Insurance itself is not required simply to rent storage space. If insurance is required as part of your rental agreement, that requirement may be satisfied either through Bader coverage or by providing proof of another applicable insurance policy.
How to File a Claim
Take reasonable steps to protect your belongings from further damage and notify the facility manager.
Take photos of your storage space and damaged items. Do not dispose of damaged property until you have spoken with a claims adjuster.
If burglary, vandalism, or another criminal act may have occurred, contact local law enforcement and file a police report.

Bader also recommends taking a few simple steps to help protect your belongings while in storage:
- Use a disc or cylinder lock
- Store belongings on pallets or shelves
- Label your boxes clearly so you can easily find what you need without unnecessary handling or moving of other stored items.
- Cover items to help protect against dust and moisture
- Avoid storing high-value items such as jewelry or currency
- Keep an inventory or photos of your stored belongings in a separate, safe location
